I am the founder and CEO of The Isocapnic Respiratory Training System. I have been an endurance coach for 20 years.
I specialize in elite level triathlon, but also work with elite level mountain bikers, and world class CrossFitters. The methodology I use is based around understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses. I create programs that are positive, effective, and with integrity that train the weaknesses with science-backed methods into strengths. We do this by finding objective truths about the athlete through physiologic assessment.
A few years ago, after seeing there is a trend that most athletes are limiting their performance because of the way they breathe, I tried to find a way to effectively isolate and train the respiratory system. I could not find any device that would work for our needs. And so after many late night conversations with Dr Sellars (my mentor) and Alex (a close friend and thriving mind), we invented the Isocapnic Breathe Way Better Training System. This is a three pillared system that consists of the hardware, the software, and the curation of knowledge.

Alex Needham is our COO/CTO with experience of scaling startups from seed through to maturity and making ideas into real world products.
With a background in Chemical Engineering and a passion for Information Technology. He is also an enthusiastic mountain biker. He brings an expertise about product development as well as helping jumpstart the operational maturity of this company.
Our first target market is any athletes looking to improve their ability. Whether it’s cycling, running, swimming, hockey, or football; we can help them not only meet their goals but exceed them and their potential.

Canadian physician, anesthesiologist, performance physiologist, entrepreneur, and coach. Co-Founder, Chief Science Officer, and Physiology Advisor at Isocapnic Technologies Inc., with a Master's degree in Athletic Coaching.
Dr. Andrew Sellars is a Canadian physician, performance physiologist, entrepreneur, and coach whose career has been dedicated to understanding human performance and helping people unlock their full potential. Based in Vernon, British Columbia, he has spent more than three decades working at the intersection of medicine, physiology, endurance sport, and innovation.
As a medical doctor and anesthesiologist with a Master’s degree in Athletic Coaching, Dr. Sellars has earned international recognition for his work in biomarker-guided training and respiratory performance. Throughout his career, he has advised and coached athletes ranging from ambitious amateurs to world-class competitors, applying objective physiological data to improve performance, health, and resilience. His philosophy has always been rooted in the belief that better decisions come from better measurement, and that understanding the body’s signals is the key to achieving sustainable excellence.
In 2013, Dr. Sellars co-founded VO2 Master, a company created to revolutionize metabolic testing by making laboratory-grade physiological assessments portable, practical, and accessible. The company’s wearable metabolic analysis technology has been adopted by coaches, researchers, clinicians, and elite athletes around the world, helping transform the way performance is measured and understood.
Building on decades of research and experience in respiratory physiology, Dr. Sellars later became a co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Isocapnic Technologies Inc., a company focused on respiratory muscle training and breathing performance. His work has helped advance the understanding of how breathing influences athletic achievement, recovery, health, and human potential.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Andrew is known for his curiosity, generosity, and lifelong passion for learning. He is a mentor to coaches, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and athletes, and remains deeply committed to translating complex science into practical tools that improve lives. Whether in the operating room, on a race course, in a research discussion, or working with a developing athlete, his mission remains the same: to help people discover what they are truly capable of becoming.
Through his writing, speaking, and innovations, Dr. Sellars continues to challenge conventional thinking and inspire others to pursue health, performance, and personal growth with both scientific rigour and human compassion.
